Mike is not only a consummate professional and thoughtful cross platform designer, but a teammate that helps you be a better yourself. He makes you think about the entire customer experience across all channels and will ask the hard questions of his product and development team. I had the opportunity to work with Mike at NRECA for a number of years. He was not only passionate about his work, he is a charismatic team member that wanted to better the organization as a whole. It's usually humanly impossible to see the long and short of anything at the same time - let alone be able to communicate it effectively to diverse audiences so that they, too, are imbued with that vision. But, I've found that quality in Mike, working with him these past years. User-interface doesn't stop at component behavior and user experience spills into making positive the requesting customer's interaction with the team.

Most amazingly, he does this while giving them a chuckle - which you try while talking about sprint cadence or component state.

Mike Truese and I have collaborated on multiple client projects. His website design skills and creativity are top-notch. He has a unique ability of working with clients and translating their feedback into action for marketers, support staff, and other team members. He also helps disparate groups of clients and team members understand each other.

Along with those project management skills, he delivers projects on time. The result is always an easy-to-use website with forward thinking design replete with usability best practices. More than once, I’ve heard him say to a client that visitors will have an easier time if a certain change is made. In working with Mike on web projects, I've seen the quality of his UX/UI work and his technical capabilities. However, I think his even greater strengths are in the soft skills he brings to teams and projects. He's someone you want on your team because you know he'll be all-in, bringing enthusiasm and ideas to the group.

Mike does a wonderful job of mentally putting himself in the shoes of users to proactively suggesting improvements that serve their needs. There are lots of people who can code and apply standard solutions to common problems. But Mike is that rarer person who is willing to go beyond what's expected, stretching to think creatively about how to make something that's "good enough" better.

And ultimately I think what really makes Mike stand out among people I've worked with is the way he combines competence and capability with a servant-leader approach that focuses on team and project successes. I've seen this first-hand in projects we've worked on together and also in the strong commitment he's made as the volunteer leader of our organization's employee enrichment committee.

Mike has helped pioneer a design system at our organization, and it's looking truly excellent. My fellow developers also raved about the work he and his team did on redesigning the UI of one of our apps.

During the pandemic, Mike has helped us all have a lighter heart and connect with each other, through his work with the Engagement Committee, and his entertaining memes on our #Random Teams channel. I know Mike will be an asset to your team, as he has been to ours.
